Team Teaching - Advantages & Disadvantages

A group of teachers working consciously,

frequently, and collectively to help a group

of students of any age learn is referred to as

 team teaching.

Quinn and Kanter (1984) define team

teaching as "simply team work between two

 qualified instructors who, together, make

 presentations to an audience."

 Teachers collaborate to determine course

goals, create a syllabus, create individual

lesson plans, instruct students, and assess

their progress. They exchange ideas, debate,

and possibly even challenge pupils to choose

the best way.

Advantages

Not all students progress at the same rate.

Equal-length periods are not acceptable in

all learning circumstances. In the single-

subject classroom, educators are no longer

primarily concerned with top-down

transmission of the tried and true by the

mature and experienced teacher to the

young, immature, and inexperienced

learner. Schools are increasingly

incorporating a new level of learning.

Disadvantages

It is not always possible to teach in a group

 setting. Some teachers have fixed

personalities or are devoted to a certain

teaching technique. Some of the other

professors on the team are just disliked by

some. Some people do not want to be

humiliated or discouraged if they fail. Some

employees are concerned that they will be

expected to do more work for the same pay.

Others are averse to sharing the spotlight,

losing ultimate control, or losing their pet

 ideas.
